What to expect from your Virtual Visit
Treatment may include a prescription for ella.
What’s the difference between ella and Plan B?
Ulipristal acetate (ella) and levonorgestrel (Plan B, My Way, and others) are both emergency birth control methods (morning-after pills) that may prevent pregnancy when taken as soon as possible after having unprotected sex. To be effective, ella must be taken within 5 days and levonorgestrel must be taken within 3 days after having unprotected sex.
Studies show that ella is more effective than levonorgestrel at preventing ovulation. Neither medication is 100% effective.
ella is available only by prescription and it’s covered by most health insurance plans. Its out-of-pocket cost is about $40 to $50. Levonorgestrel is available over the counter at many pharmacies and online for $50 or less.
